Dr. Ihekweazu recently returned from a fulfilling journey through India. From the bustling streets of Mumbai and the academic atmosphere of Pune to the vibrant tech scene in Hyderabad and Bangalore, with a serene stop in Coimbatore. The Ganga arthroplasty conference was truly eye-opening, witnessing and participating in live surgeries focused on the most complex deformities. Dr. Ihekweazu had the privilege to participate in numerous surgeries, instruct surgeons across India on the innovative VelysTM robotic partial knee replacement, and lead an insightful cadaveric session in Bangalore. Beyond the operating room, they had incredible food and engaged in invaluable exchanges, all driven by one shared goal: to enhance the lives of their patients through these cutting-edge technologies. Advancing Global Orthopedic Excellence at the APAC Knee Symposium
Dr. Ihekweazu recently returned from the APAC Knee Symposium in Bangkok, Thailand, where he served as part of the esteemed global faculty. The event featured dynamic debates, interactive breakout sessions, and insightful discussions on robotic-assisted kinematic restoration and the Velys™ partial knee replacement. Beyond the enriching professional exchange, the conference was also a culinary standout—complete with authentic Thai street food stations.
Dr. Ihekweazu Is The First In The World To Perform A
Velys™ Partial Knee Replacement
Dr. Ihekweazu was the first surgeon in the world to perform a Velys partial knee replacement procedure. The Velys robot is a next generation balancing and alignment technology used in knee replacement surgery. Over the past three years, Dr. Ihekweazu has performed more than 1,000 Velys Total knee replacements with this technology. However, he recently became the first surgeon in the world to use the Velys robot for Partial knee replacement surgery. The prosthesis used in the Velys partial knee replacement is the Depuy Sigma HP. This implant has been used for many years and has an outstanding track record when performed without robotics. We are excited to see the outcome of partial knee replacements with the Sigma HP implant improve even more now that we have robotics to improve our precision in performing the surgery.
Dr. Ihekweazu Leads Advanced Training on Velys Robotic Partial Knee Replacement in Switzerland
Dr. Ihekweazu started out a very busy summer with a quick trip to Solothurn, Switzerland (small town outside of Zurich) to help train a key group of topflight European surgeons on the new Velys robotic partial knee replacement platform. Dr. Ihekweazu always feel great to interact with this brilliant group of surgeons to continue pushing the envelope for what we can offer our patients back home!
Speaking at the Society for Robotic Surgery annual conference. Dr. Ihekweazu lectured on the value of data in robotic surgery and gave a second lecture of the development of a new imageless platform for robotic assisted partial knee replacement
This is in California at the Depuy Synthes Robotic Knee Restoration training course. Dr. Ihekweazu routinely teaches other surgeons how to use technology during these types of training sessions
